The 2024 Saxons 5 Mile Race

11am Sunday 6th October 2024

The Saxons 5 Mile Race is held at: Saxmundham Running & Fitness, Carlton Park, Saxmundham, IP17 1AT. The race is open to all runners aged 15 and over and is a multi terrain, chip timed race on playing field, footpaths and off road that is fully marshalled and sign posted. There will be winner’s prizes, a race memento and goody bag for every finisher!

Junior Fun Run, 10am

The Junior Fun Run has been in action since 2015 and takes place around the field at Carlton Park before the main race begins. It’s just £2 to enter the Junior Fun Run and you can only enter on the day. The junior fun run starts at 10 am and is one lap of the sports field (1km) for ages 8 and under or two laps of the sports field (2km) for ages 9-14. 10.00am start with registration open from 9am. Medals for all finishers in the junior fun runs.

How to Enter the Main 5 Mile Race

There are 250 places available for the Saxons Five Mile Race.

Online entries close 4th October 2024 5:53 pm (BST). Enries will be available on the day for an additional £2 fee. Cash only we cannot take card payments.

  • Affiliated Runners: £14
  • Unaffiliated Runners: £16

Please Note:

  • Entering the race will be considered acceptance that you are fit and healthy to complete the race and you do so entirely at your own risk.
  • The Saxons will in no way be liable for any injury, loss, illness, damage or accident howsoever occasioned resulting from the event.
  • Once you have registered it will not be possible to transfer your place to anyone else.
  • Entries are non-refundable.

The Route On the Day

  • New start and finish locations on the field.
  • The route takes runners from the sports field at Carlton Park Sports Ground towards Brook Farm Road and Kelsale, where it loops round and finishes back at the sports ground.
  • Changing facilities, toilets and refreshments will be available at the start and finish; there’s always great cake on sale at very reasonable prices!
  • Baggage storage available
  • Free parking is available at the Carlton Park sports ground
  • Race numbers will be given out on the day so please ensure you arrive in good time to collect your number
  • The race starts on the sports field of Carlton Park
  • The race is well marshalled and should you need assistance during the race please go to your nearest marshall point and they will radio for help if necessary
  • All earphones are prohibited
  • Dogs on leads are allowed at Carlton Park with spectators but not allowed on the race itself
  • Medical cover will be provided on the day
  • Chip timing will be provided.
  • Race numbers and bibs can be collected from Race HQ on the day from 9 am until 10.45 am.

Awards and Prizes

  • All finishers will receive a race momento
  • Goody bag of snacks and a pen for each finisher kindly donated by Fairweather Law
  • Trophies will be awarded to the first 3 male and first 3 female finishers. There are also trophies for 1st F40, F50, F60, F70+ and M40, M50, M60, M70+
  • Only 1 prize per person. 
  • Prizes for first Male and Female teams (first 3 finishers to score.)

Volunteers

Putting on any race event requires support from many volunteers helping with everything from marshalling, running water stations or making cakes and refreshments.  Whilst we encourage all our members to help with the organisation and safe running of this event we’d love help from non-members too.
